New Features

  • Automatic Chart Identification – Imatest will automatically identify the chart type when an image is uploaded, and an image analysis will be recommended, based on the chart type. Read more here.
  • Internationalization on New Main Window – Choice of 5 languages on the Imatest Master GUI: English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
  • New Resolution features to support ISO 12233 standards – New options allow improved analysis with algorithms that use 5th order polynomial fitting and Tukey window for analysis. Documentation for the new ISO 12233 calculations can be found here.
  • RegMark Detection Controls – Regmark detection for SFRreg images is significantly improved in situations of: low-contrast marks, blurry marks, high noise, or small targets. Read more
  • Display Sagittal/tangential MTF data – Option has been added to plot Sagittal/tangential MTF on the the Radial (lens-style) MTF plot.
  • Focus Field Postprocessor – New postprocessor allows user to compare how a lens performs at different distances, by analyzing a batch of files taken at various distances from the target. Find information and instructions here.
  • New Flatfield Target type – Flatfield combines the functionality of Uniformity and Blemish modules into a single analysis of nonuniformity, blemishes, defective pixels, ISO 18844 flare and EMVA1288-based measurements. Read more
  • Changes to Bayer frequency units and labeling – Spatial frequency scaling has been fixed for certain combinations of bayer frequency units and spatial frequency unit selections. The default bayer frequency units have been changed to “cycles per total pixels”. Details here.
  • OCR in Image Statistics – OCR images can now be analyzed in Image Statistics.

User Interface improvements

  • Tooltips for Analysis types, and Image Quality Factors
  • View full image filepath when hover mouse over image filename
  • Drag and drop support for analysis selection
  • Improved image preview/Zoom
  • Improved preview for multiple images
  • List view for Analysis types
  • Drop images on any tab (to add to image window)
  • Added number for favorites count

New Data Output Fields

  • New O/P value MTF JSON O/P to be displayed in the units selected in the MTF units “Display options”
  • Clipping % in JSON Output

Deprecated or Changed Features

  • Uniformity and Blemish analysis are now performed using the Flatfield target under the Uniformity/Blemish analysis category.
  • There are new options for Sharpness calculations, to comply with ISO 12233 standards. Full details are here.
  • Bayer Frequency units and labeling have been changed for some unit selections. Read more about change details here.
  • Due to the addition of Flatfield, any IT tests that previously used Uniformity or Blemish should change to use Flatfield functions instead (see below).

C++: flatfield_shell()

.NET: Imatest.IT.FlatField

python: ImatestLibrary.flatfield()

  • Imatest users who previously used Uniformity or Blemish will now be using the Flatfield target. The Imatest INI file will need to be updated to reflect this change.

Known Issues

  • Flat field json output file – the following fields are missing- “mean_pixel_level_RGBY” and “pixel_std_dev_RGBY” (these will be added in 22.1.1)
  • Flat field analysis is missing Flatfield_histograms plot
  • Some strings are not yet translated for Internationalization
  • MacOS IT – Debugging of IT Libraries will not work on Apple Silicon

Bug Fixes in this Release

  • Resolved an issue with Noise plot in eSFR ISO and 36patch DR
  • Fixed crashes in Studio when saving data
  • Uniformity json % values – now are shown in % values (values 0 – 100)
  • Fixed a crash simulating Bayer images with a non-integer gamma.
  • Fixed an error in Stepchart module when analyzing Auto Exposure
  • Fixed outputs when MTF frequency units are Cycles/Object inch

  • Imatest Master version 22.1.2 provides a utility to migrate the settings for blemish and uniformity in the INI file to Flat field settings.

If you have been using Uniformity, or Blemish in pre-22.1 Imatest versions, and you wish to migrate your current settings to Flat field settings, you should use this procedure. If you wish to use the default Flat field settings, no action is required.

This migration utility can be run from the new Imatest main window, or from the Classic UI. Directions for running the utility both ways are given below.

  • Via New main windowChoose any image uniformity file
1. Choose any image uniformity file
2. Choose Flatfield interactive
3. Click the Analyze button
4. On flatfield analysis window, choose “INI File Settings” -> “Update from pre-22.1 INI”, and confirm that you want to migrate settings. Prior to migration, a backup is taken of the current ini file.
  • Via classic imatest
1. Select flatfield interactive
2. Press cancel when asked to select an image
3. On flatfield analysis window, choose “INI File Settings” -> “Update from pre-22.1 INI”, and confirm that you want to migrate settings. Prior to migration, a backup is taken of the current ini file.

More about this migration utility:

Settings will be migrated over from the previous Uniformity and Blemish sections, to create the Flatfield settings. In the case of conflicting settings, Blemish settings will be given priority. The migrated settings will be saved in the current INI file. As part of settings migration, a log file will be created that lists which settings were migrated, and if there were any conflicts. The backup and log files will be located in the folder where your ini file is located. You will receive a message at the end of migration that gives the exact name and location of the log and backup files.
